IDEAS FOR A SUCCESSFUL
FOOD & FUND DRIVE

Great publicity is the key to success! Call or fax your local newspapers and cable stations to let the public know your plans to raise food or money. Let everyone know that for each dollar they donate the Anne Arundel County Food Bank is able to distribute ten dollars worth of food to families in our county. Below are some ideas we hope you find helpful:
  • Donate complete meals – from breakfast through dinner.
  • Become involved with a current event or food drive.
  • Organize a personal products (soap, shampoo, etc.) drive.
  • Organize a “Dress Down Day” at your office for whomever donates food or funds.
  • Have your employer donate $1.00 for every pound of food collected by employees.
  • Encourage co-workers to donate money equivalent to what they would spend on one family meal.
  • Get creative. Take your children Trick or Treating for food to donate.
  • Organize a bake sale, tag sales, 50/50 prize raffle, car wash, and a car show or holiday party and donate the proceeds to help us fight hunger in our neighborhoods.
  • Organize a Walk-A-Thon for Hunger. Collect Money or food for each mile you walk.
FOOD DRIVE CHECKLIST

  • Create a theme for your drive.  Coordinate your drive with a special event or holiday celebration.
  • Set a date for your drive – at least two weeks works best.  Shorter drives need to be very well advertised to be effective.
  • Publicize, Publicize, Publicize!  Posters, flyers, email blitz, newsletters, payroll inserts, public service announcements, your voicemail message – are all great ways to inform people.  Be sure to give a contact name and number in case anyone has questions.
  • Choose your method for collecting food.  Pass out bags or place collection boxes around your office building.   Be sure the boxes will be manageable once filled with cans.
  • Double the value of your donation by delivering it directly to the Food Bank or a local pantry.  If you call ahead you can also arrange to tour our facilities.   If you need to have your food picked up an appointment can be made with our administrative assistant or our driver.
  • Thank you everyone.  If your company or organization has a newsletter and publishes anything regarding your food drive please send us a copy for our scrapbook.

Check out our calendar for upcoming food drives you may participate in.
