Service with Distinction Award

ServiceAward

Congratulations to Delvin Johnson for receiving this tremendous honor!

On Thursday July 28th, Delvin Johnson was one of the honorees of the Service with Distinction Award presented by Maryland Nonprofits. Please read the nomination letter that details the amazing work he does to help the Anne Arundel County Food Bank carry out its mission:

The warehouse team at Anne Arundel County Food Bank as a whole goes above and beyond to distribute food and basic necessities to each of our partners who are helping help our under-resourced neighbors. However, there is one person who holds this team together and works to empower each team member. Delvin Johnson is that person.

Delvin started work at the Food Bank over a year ago, and he tells us that this was the turning point in his life; away from addiction and incarceration. As the Lead Warehouse worker, Delvin is on the frontline of our work, leading his team to put together hundreds of orders of food each month for our over 80 member agencies. Without his help and leadership, we could not have distributed over 5.8 million pounds of food to our community last year.

Delvin has also opened the door for people exiting the prison system and helped connect them to opportunities that are often hard to find. Through his mentorship, not only has he developed a hardworking team, but also provided guidance to individuals striving to successfully transition back to civilian life.

“My life revolves around helping others,” said Delvin. “It’s my mission to uplift others and let them know we care. That you are not left behind.”

Delvin not only leads our warehouse team, but he is active in our community as a volunteer through speaking engagements with the judiciary system to encourage the continuation of funding for incarcerated reentry transition programs, donation drives for under-resourced children, and also as a senior leader of Narcotics Anonymous. His commitment to helping others is exemplary, and we are proud of his work to provide guidance and support to those who are struggling.
