Hunger in Anne Arundel County

Somewhere in Anne Arundel County is a mother that has to choose between feeding her child or paying the rent; an elderly person that has to choose between filling a prescription or being able to eat and a child who wonders if their free school lunch will be their only meal that day.

The Anne Arundel County Food & Resource Bank is dedicated to ending hunger in Anne Arundel County -  There are 39,330  Anne Arundel County residents living below the poverty line.  This does not represent the true extent of poverty as the cost of living in Anne Arundel County is well above the federal poverty line.  This creates a huge gap for those who need assistance but do not qualify for government assistance.   To understand the struggles of the growing number of households in our communities that do not earn enough to afford basic necessities, a population called ALICE  (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) created by United Way. Anne Arundel County has 56,706 households below ALICE threshold.  The Anne Arundel County Food Bank assists these families out of crisis by providing over 3.5 million dollars worth of food and basic necessities free to those in need annually.
